A multigenerational saga that follows the Stephanides family, Greek immigrants to America, as they navigate the 20th century. The story centers on Calliope, who discovers she is intersex, and her journey to understand her unique identity and the family secret that led to it. The novel explores themes of identity, gender, family, and the American Dream.
