Saturday & Sunday, August 6–7
10:00 am–2:00 pm

Instructor:  Corey Swanborg

IPDH and CDC guidelines about face masks will be observed.

Join Corey Swanborg, a descendant of Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, to make an elk rawhide Native American rattle. On the first class day, you will learn how to soak and stretch the rawhide and then let dry overnight. The next day, you will assemble the rattle and insert the corn and stick, and then you will decorate the rattle (beads, fur and leather will be supplied). Corey will tell the story of the rattle and other stories associated with it. He will share where and what native culture is all about and where his culture stands. Before taking your rattle home, you can try it out with a group song or two using the rattle and then bless or smudge the rattle when finished. All supplies provided. Please bring a snack or lunch if you like.
