Ages 13+. Learn to make goat's milk soap using the cold process method. At the end of the class you will be taking about two pounds of soap home with you. This class will be fun, informative and easy to do! We will talk about using essential oils and natural colorants in your soap to keep it as pure and natural as possible. The soap will be molded into milk carton, which will be provided. If you would like to use a decorative mold, please bring only silicone molds (found in the cake decorating isle at local craft stores or online). Plastic molds do not work well with the cold process soap. You will be working with lye and will learn how to handle it properly. Wear long sleeves, pants and closed toed shoes. Gloves and goggles will be provided, as well as all the ingredients for the soap. If you wish to use essential oils, please bring only 100% pure oils from a reputable company.

Step into spring and discover your joy flow during this day-long retreat. Join Valerie Gibbons, founder of FootsieStools™ Ltd., for an uplifting day of expressive collage making. Create meaning and positivity through two collage art forms, one that engages your right brain and the other your left brain. The result is a unique expression of what makes you a happy “sole.”

In the morning, create an art collage around a whimsical shoe design by piecing together magazine pictures, book pages, decorative paper, small objects, and other mixed media. Bring a magazine that inspires you (it will be cut up). Optional: Scrap and printed papers, old book, stickers, one-dimensional object or memento that complement your theme. Instructor will have magazines and ephemera on hand. Your finished artwork will be matted and ready to display.

In the afternoon, engage in collage writing, the playful assembly of scattered pieces of language and self-contained moments into an artistic whole, much like the art form. Create a written mosaic that positively expresses your “sole” journey, using your art collage theme as a source of inspiration. Examples and prompts will be provided. Bring writing paper or journal, pen, inspirational quotes, memorable lines from a literary work, or snippets of dialogue and humor from your own life to embellish your theme. Your finished collage essay or poem will be handwritten on decorative paper.

Participants will be invited to share their art and writing collages with the group. Includes a brief introduction on the benefits of art and humor for health and well-being. FootsieStools (footstools with shoes) will be in attendance, so smiles are guaranteed.

Some supplies are included. Bring a sack lunch.
