MAIN BUILDING

The main building is the heart and soul of Womanspace. On its main floor are the staff offices, the William Reif Gallery, our premier art gallery and meeting space, our Gallery2Go gift shop, and Holistic Health Room. The lower level of the building houses the Media Room.

Accessibility: A ramp is available inside the garage for people attending programs or events in the William Reif Gallery, visiting staff offices or Gallery2Go. For ramp access, please call Womanspace ahead of time or upon arrival. (At present, the lower level is not accessible for people with walking disabilities.) To inquire whether a program is located in an accessible space, a person needing such consideration should mention that when registering.

NEW DIMENSIONS STUDIO

An integral part of Womanspace, New Dimensions Studio exists to further the creative education of women, men, and children, to promote skillful application of the fine arts, to enhance the Rockford area cultural community, and to provide support for the ongoing programs of Womanspace.

Watercolor, acrylic and oil painting, drawing, collage, pastels, mixed media, and many other art forms are taught in the upper studio. Wheel-throwing, hand building, and sculpture are taught in the lower clay studio.

Open Studio is available at a nominal charge for affiliated artists and Womanspace students who have completed an art class.

ANJALI PAVILION

The Anjali Pavilion is a most generous gift from Sunil Puri, a good friend of Womanspace. This beautiful facility expands our programming possibilities allowing us to provide new educational, multicultural and social activities and ceremonies.

LABYRINTH

The Womanspace labyrinth (walking meditation path), located on the heart of our developing prairie, is open to visitors seven days a week during daylight hours (unless it is being used for private functions).

Our labyrinth was created by a very devoted team of volunteers between 2000 and 2002, when it was dedicated as a sacred space, available to anyone seeking quiet and reflection.

To reach the Womanspace Labyrinth, follow the “prayer ribbon” markers, beginning at the entrance to the woods just off the circle in front of New Dimensions Studios.

PRAIRIE

The Womanspace prairie is a work in progress. It is located “behind” our small pine forest, and is accessible by following the same ribbons that lead to the labyrinth.

This acreage is an unspoiled, never-developed part of the original Illinois prairie. Its restoration is a multi-year project that goes forward as volunteers have time and energy to devote to it, removing invasive exotic species and planting prairie flowers and grasses native to this area. Our ultimate goal is a bio-diverse native landscape of prairie and savannah, as well as walking paths that will allow visitors to enjoy this beautiful area.

Currently, the prairie is home, at least part of the year, not only to the members of the Grounds Committee and other volunteers, but also to white-tailed deer, a few foxes, a large flock of wild turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, and an occasional coyote.

GARDENS

Womanspace has several named gardens on its campus, and visitors are welcome to enjoy them seven days a week during daylight hours.

A garden is like all of us – growing, changing, learning, surviving, thriving – embracing and celebrating life, joys, and sorrows.

Volunteers lovingly tend Womanspace gardens, and the gardening group welcomes assistance when anyone is so moved!
