A retelling of Mark Twain’s “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”, told from the perspective of Jim (referred to as James in the novel), an enslaved man. The story follows James’s escape down the Mississippi River with Huckleberry Finn, as they both flee difficult circumstances. Everett’s novel reimagines the classic tale, offering a powerful perspective on the realities of slavery, freedom, and the complexities of human relationships, with a focus on James’s agency and intelligence.
