Henri Rousseau 1884-1910

Post-Impressionism/Naïve Art/Primitivism

Henri Rousseau started painting in his early 40s as a “hobby.” By the time he was 49, he retired from his toll and tax-collecting job to be a full-time painter with no formal art education. In time, he became recognized as a self-taught genius who influenced many artists who came after him.
