    Facilitator:  Freya

No previous dance experience required; great for all fitness levels — even those with physical limitations. (Contact Freya prior to class to discuss specific situation.)

Belly dancing is incredibly empowering. Women and men of every size and ability level will have fun while building confidence, strength and grace. Learn the Egyptian roots of Belly dance and then experiment with modern tribal and fusion styles. Short combinations and choreography will be incorporated into technique and drills making it a great workout for your muscles and your mind. Some choreography will incorporate props such as veils, fan veils, canes, or finger cymbals which will be available to borrow in class. For those who want their own, a limited number of items and hip scarves will be available for purchase.

Come in yoga pants, leggings or other attire that allows full range of motion. No baggy shirts, baggy pants or long skirts as it’s important for you and the instructor to see your body positions. Also, a scarf or shawl to tie around your hips is helpful to see your hip movements in the mirror.

Heart beats, footsteps, turn signals, dripping faucets, babies sleeping, all have a rhythm of their own. Drums and drumming have been apart of the human expression from the beginning of time.  Womanspace gathers a group monthly to express our joy of rhythm with whatever instrument we  have, or  would like to borrow.  If you have a djembe, dunan, frame drum, or any other percussive instrument please bring them. We encourage all ages, to come to enjoy the camaraderie of making music together. We will explore traditional drumming rhythms, the rhythms of sayings, Nursery rhymes,  and connect with each other and to the earth. We will also express some emotions through drumming. Anger, love, fellowship and contentment can also be expressed as we settle into the rhythm of drumming out our human nature. No talent, drum, or previous experience required.

Advance registration appreciated. Walk-ins will be welcome. Register by: 4/16

Our bodies were made to move and flow! Within this movement, we find a deeper connection to our bodies and to all that is. When we dance, our bodies realign, adjust and become fluid with the rhythm of life. Imagine how freeing it would feel to trust your body’s movements completely, knowing it has a rhythm uniquely its own.

UdanceUtopia is a moving meditative practice that invokes, awakens and revitalizes our being through free-flowing movement and spontaneous expression of the physical body. All of us carry the memory of dance in our blood and bones. All we need to do is start moving!

The intent is to offer a fun, safe and sacred space for all to explore, feel and express fully how their body wants to move and to discover a new way to feel yourself exist in your own amazing body. When we open the flow of our physical being, all other pathways open! Dress to move and bring a mat or blanket.
